Russian scientists have discovered a first comet over the last 20-year period. The new comet, now marked as C/2010 X1 (Elenin), was discovered by an astronomer Leonid Elenin from the Institute of Applied Mathematics on December 10, 2011. The discovery was made by means of a Russian automated observatory ISON-NM, located in New Mexico, USA. Following day has brought confirmation of the comet’s existence from Russian and Ukrainian astronomers, working at Maidanak observatory, Kazakhstan. American and Japanese scietnisst have sent their confirmations one day later. Parameters of the new celestial body need to be measured more accurately.
